Restrictions on use

As a general rule, people with a hypersensitivity to salicylic acid or similar substances should not use such corn plasters. Neither should these patches be used on babies or people with limited kidney function. If you are chronically taking medication, the use of corn plasters containing salicylic acid should be clarified with a doctor in advance, as they can affect the effect of certain other medications.

Examples would be methotrexate or oral antidiabetics (diabetes drugs in tablet form). It should also be noted that salicylic acid increases the permeability of the skin. During pregnancy and lactation, corn patches should be used with caution, if not completely avoided.

Corn plasters containing salicylic acid in pregnant women should only be used on small areas and in low concentrations. They should not exceed 10cm2 and should not be used frequently. Salicylic acid patches should not be applied to the breast during the breastfeeding period.

The use of salicylic acid-containing corn plasters in children should also only be used under increased precautions. The information on this cannot be generalized and should be reduced separately in the respective package insert. Under no circumstances should more than one patch be used at the same time or for a longer period of time in children under the age of twelve.

Special care should be taken if the child’s health is already impaired due to other concomitant diseases. In these cases, or if there are other uncertainties regarding use, a doctor should be consulted.
