The creation of protruding ears is a surgical procedure, regardless of the method chosen. For this reason, the general complications of surgical procedures may occur. If the application of ears is performed under general anesthesia, the cardiovascular system may be affected.

The statutory health insurance companies are not obliged to pay for treatment measures that are necessary due to plastic surgery.It is therefore advisable to take out a special insurance policy that covers these additional costs if necessary. The costs for such an insurance amount to on the average uniquely 80 euro. In the case of small children with protruding ears, it may be possible under certain circumstances for the statutory health insurance to cover the costs.

Parents of affected children should therefore contact the responsible health insurance company and describe the situation. In general, the younger the affected child, the more likely it is that the health insurance company will cover the full costs. It can be assumed that the costs of putting on protruding ears are usually covered in full for children who have not yet reached the age of six. For children who have not yet reached the age of twelve, a portion of the costs incurred are usually covered.
