Risks | Umbilical hernia in the baby

Risks

The umbilical hernia in babies is in most cases absolutely harmless and bears no risks. Only in the case of a so-called incarceration of the hernia sac should something be done quickly. Otherwise, if suitable treatment is not carried out, there is a risk that the blood vessels supplying the hernia sac will be pinched off, resulting in the death of the organ sections in the hernia sac.

Prognosis

The prognosis of umbilical hernia in babies is very good even without medical intervention. As a rule, the bulge recedes completely by the third year of life.
