Risks
Although the abrasive particles in commercially available products are very fine and therefore not very harmful, negative influences on the enamel and especially on diseased gums cannot be excluded. When buying a toothpaste for white teeth you should therefore pay attention to the so-called RDA value. The higher this value is, the more abrasive and harmful the application of the toothpaste can be on the tooth and gum surface.
An RDA value in the range of 30 to 70 can be regarded as largely harmless. However, in addition to the abrasive particles contained in white toothpaste, other factors also play a decisive role in the question of whether and to what extent dental health is negatively affected by its use. In general, it should never be used directly after eating or drinking acidic foods or beverages.
Also, the duration and intensity of brushing with a special toothpaste for white teeth has an enormous influence on their abrasive effect. In addition, the user should ensure that the brushing technique is as gentle as possible on the teeth and gums. Even the choice of an unsuitable toothbrush and/or an aggressive brushing technique can cause severe and lasting damage to the teeth.
The additional use of a toothpaste for white teeth aggravates this problem. To be on the safe side, the choice of a suitable toothbrush should therefore be based on a product with medium bristle thickness. In addition, care should be taken to ensure that the teeth are brushed with little pressure and with particular care.
What toothpastes are available for white teeth?
Toothpaste with activated carbon is normal toothpaste, which gets a black color due to the added active carbon. The advantage of toothpaste containing activated carbon is the gentle cleaning of the tooth surfaces. There is no danger of damaging the enamel due to the absence of abrasive particles.
Thus, the black toothpaste can gently remove stains and plaque. Besides incompatibilities, there are no concerns with this toothpaste. This toothpaste is used in the same way as any other toothpaste. However, it can cause discoloration of the gum line. To prevent this, it is very important to rinse the mouth thoroughly with water.
