Rosacea: Medical History

Medical history (history of the patient) represents an important component in the diagnosis of rosacea.

Family history

  • Is there a history of skin disease in your family?

Social history

  • What is your profession?

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • Have you noticed any redness of the skin? If so, where are these localized?
  • When do these skin rednesses occur?
  • How long do these changes persist?
  • Have you noticed any other skin changes (e.g. vasodilatation, vesicles, nodules)?

Vegetative anamnesis incl. nutritional anamnesis.

  • Do you eat a balanced diet?
  • Do you eat a lot of spicy foods?
  • Do you drink a lot of hot drinks?
  • Do you often take hot baths?
  • Are you exposed to sunlight a lot?
  • Do you exercise regularly?
  • Do you drink alcohol? If so, what drink(s) and how many glasses per day?

Self history incl. medication history.

  • Pre-existing conditions (skin diseases; infection with the bacterium Helicobacter pylori).
