Rose Lichen (Pityriasis Rosea): Examination

A comprehensive clinical examination is the basis for selecting further diagnostic steps:

  • General physical examination – including blood pressure, pulse, body weight, height; further:
    • Inspection (viewing) of the skin
      • First sign is usually the so-called mother plate, which often appears on the trunk; this is a good coin-sized, scaly, pinkish spot on the chest or back
      • Small-spotted exanthema (rash) – aligns along the skin lines on the trunk, neck, or extremities near the body (rarely on the oral mucosa); the spots increase in size and bear a small-shaped scaling at the edge
  • Dermatological examination [due todifferential diagnoses:
    • Eczema
    • Pityriasis alba – common, non-contagious skin disease that occurs mainly in children. It manifests itself by dry, fine-scaly, light patches that appear mainly on the face, which leads to unpigmented foci
    • Psoriasis]
  • Health Check

Square brackets [ ] indicate possible pathological (pathological) physical findings.
