Structure and properties

Roxatidine (C₁₇H₂₆N₂O₃, M_r = 306.4 g/mol) is present in the drug as roxatidine acetate, a prodrug that is metabolized in the body to the active drug.

Effects

Roxatidine (ATC A02BA06) inhibits the secretion of gastric acid and pepsin in the stomach. The effects are due to antagonism at histamine H2 receptors.

Indications

For the treatment of gastric acid-associated disorders (eg, gastric distention, GERD).
