Selamectin is commercially available as a solution (Stronghold). It has been approved in many countries since 2000.
Structure and properties
Selamectin (C43H63NO11, Mr = 769.96 g/mol) is a semisynthetic derivative of avermectin. It is derived from doramectin.
Effects

The effects are based on binding to chloride channels in the nervous system of the parasites.

Selamectin is used in cats and dogs for the prevention and treatment of flea infestation. It is also effective against heartworm disease, ear mite infestation, roundworms, hookworms, hair lice, and canine mange.
