Always in the indicated costs are counselling interviews before the operation as well as the operation itself included. In recent years there have been more and more offers to undergo Lasik surgery abroad. The stated costs for a Lasik operation performed abroad can be much lower than the average costs of the operation in Germany. It should be noted, however, that in addition to the costs of the operation itself, high travel costs can be incurred.
It should also be noted that a single visit to the clinic is usually not possible and not recommended. There should be at least one consultation and information session before the operation. In order to make sure that this is a serious offer, it is advisable to read reports about your experiences or to visit the facility yourself. Special attention should be paid to the hygienic conditions. It is strongly discouraged to undergo an operation at a location if you feel that you have not been sufficiently informed about the operation and its consequences or if you have doubts about the seriousness of the offer.
Alternatives
Despite the advancement of surgical techniques, a Lasik operation is a surgical procedure that cannot be performed without risks. Therefore, before considering a Lasik operation, the alternatives should generally be examined. Today, defective vision can be corrected very well with glasses and contact lenses.
A further advantage over surgery is the cost of the available alternatives. For example, the production of glasses usually costs considerably less than the execution of a Lasik operation on both eyes. Only when the alternatives of a Lasik operation and their advantages and disadvantages have been sufficiently explained, can a Lasik operation be recommended.
