In shock wave therapy, high-energy mechanical waves are focused on the treated area. They are very helpful in promoting bone growth, blood circulation, tissue formation and wound healing. The mechanism of action is still being researched but it has already been proven that shock wave therapy can achieve a similarly good treatment of a heel spur as cortisone treatment.
In addition, no harmful side effects are known with shock wave therapy. The shock wave therapy costs about 60 – 100€ per session. Depending on the severity of the existing disease, several applications are necessary.
So far, this form of therapy has not yet been included in the service catalog of the statutory health insurance companies. Accordingly, there is no reimbursement of the costs and it is usually carried out as a self-paying service. Reimbursement is only possible upon application.

Shockwave therapy is a very good therapy option and can also replace surgery in certain cases. It is free of side effects and the costs amount to about 10 – 30% of a corresponding surgical treatment.
