Side effects and interactions

Special care should be taken when using pulling ointment in case of hypersensitivity to ammonium bituminosulfonate (Ichthammolum) or other ingredients of the pulling ointment. Ichtholan® has not yet been tested in children under 12 years of age and therefore does not offer any safety in its application. Care should be taken whether the use of pulling ointment leads to an improvement of the wound.

If this does not happen within 2-3 weeks, a doctor should be consulted. If you are using other externally applied medicines or suffer from other diseases such as allergies, you should also discuss the use of pull ointment with your doctor. The contained ammonium bituminosulfant can increase the solubility of other active ingredients, making them more easily absorbed by the skin or increasing their effect.

Ichtholan® 50% must not be used during pregnancy or while breast-feeding. To date, there is no knowledge of risks during this period. However, the manufacturer does not recommend its use during pregnancy or lactation.

The ability to drive is not endangered by the use of pulling ointment and there are no special application instructions for older patients. For children a pediatrician should always be consulted for advice. Contact with the eyes should also be avoided.

When using Ichtholan® 50% in the anal and intimate areas, it should be noted that ingredients of the pulling ointment can lead to a reduction in the tear resistance of condoms. This affects the safety of condoms. In rare cases, pulling ointment can lead to intolerance reactions on the skin.

These can cause burning, itching and redness. In individual cases, blistering may occur. If skin reactions occur, a doctor should be consulted.

Acquisition

Most pulling ointments are available without prescription and in pharmacies. A few exceptions, however, are only available on prescription.
