Side effects | Lyrica® for anxiety disorders

Side effects

Apart from undesirable effects of the active ingredient pregabalin, Lyrica®, like any drug, can trigger an allergic reaction. Particularly dangerous and therefore worthy of emphasis are visual disturbances and dizziness, which can lead to accidents. Among the frequent adverse effects of Lyrica® are many forms of alteration in consciousness and changes in sensation, such as for other, less frequent side effects, please refer to the Lyrica® package insert. If side effects occur, a doctor or pharmacist should be consulted (not only, but especially if they are serious or very distressing).

Initial worsening of Lyrica®

As a drug that acts on the central nervous system (brain), Lyrica® initially represents a major intervention in the body to which the body must first get used. Especially at the beginning of treatment, the drug’s attenuating properties can cause complaints such as headaches, fatigue, concentration and even speech disorders. Emotional side effects such as mood swings and delusions are also possible.

All these symptoms are of course frightening and in that sense not conducive to an anxiety disorder at first and can make the symptoms even worse. However, once the body has become accustomed to the active substance, these side effects usually go away or at least become less and the component of the effect that is actually helpful against an anxiety disorder occurs.
