Side effects of Insuman comb

The desired effect of insulin – lowering the glucose level – causes the most common side effect, an excessive lowering of the sugar level (hypoglycemia). This can be manifested by symptoms such as palpitations (tachycardia), tremors, hunger and sweating. Other possible side effects include weight gain (by inhibiting the breakdown of the reserves of sugar, fat and proteins), changes in the subcutaneous fatty tissue (lipodystrophy) at the injection site, allergic reactions, edema due to sodium retention, especially at the start of therapy, and others.

Contraindications

Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) is an absolute contraindication. Insulin should be dosed with special care in patients with kidney or liver insufficiency.

Interactions

There are numerous interactions with other drugs. For example, there is an increased need for insulin with simultaneous therapy with beta-sympathomimetics such as salbutamol (e.g. as part of the therapy of bronchial asthma or COPD), corticoid steroids such as prednisolone, thyroid hormones (mostly L-thyroxine), estrogens (e.g. as part of contraception with the “pill”), water tablets (diuretics) and others. There is a reduced need for insulin when taking beta-blockers (e.g. in case of cardiac arrhythmia, heart failure or after a heart attack), MAO inhibitors (psychotropic drugs), aspirin (ASA) and others. Under insulin therapy, there is a risk of hypoglycaemia if alcohol is consumed at the same time, as alcohol inhibits the body’s own glucose synthesis.
