Side effects of Katadolon | Katadolon®

Side effects of Katadolon

As with all drugs, Katadolon® can also have a number of undesirable side effects. Very often fatigue occurs as a side effect, especially at the beginning of therapy with Katadolon®. Dizziness, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, depression, tremor, headache, abdominal pain, dry mouth, restlessness/nervousness, flatulence and diarrhea are also frequently observed. Occasionally, confusion, visual disturbances or allergic reactions such as rashes, hives and itching may occur. Very rarely, however, an increase in liver enzyme levels and drug-induced hepatitis as a side effect of Katadolon® were observed.

Interactions with other drugs

If other drugs are taken in parallel with Katadolon® to relax or calm the muscles, their effect can be enhanced by Katadolon®. Alcohol also has a stronger effect when taking Katadolon®. Since it also puts additional strain on the liver, it is urgently recommended to refrain from drinking alcohol while taking Katadolon®.

Regular monitoring of the quick-alcohol level in patients undergoing treatment with anticoagulant drugs (e.g. warfarin) can help to detect an excessive effect of this drug in time. The effect of diazepam can also be enhanced if Katadolon® is taken at the same time. Due to the simultaneous degradation in the liver, a parallel intake of Katadolon® with paracetamol and carbamazepine should not be carried out.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding with Katadolon

Up to now, there is insufficient experience with the use of Katadolon® in pregnant women. Therefore, it is not recommended to take Katadolon® during pregnancy. If Katadolon® is taken during breastfeeding, breastfeeding should not be continued during treatment or discontinued beforehand, as previous studies have shown that the active ingredient of Katadolon® is only partially absorbed into breast milk.
