Side effects of meridol mouthwash | Meridol Mouthwash

Side effects of meridol mouthwash

Side effects occur statistically very rarely when using mouthwashes. However, possible side effects may include intolerance to fluoride or chlorhexidine, as well as allergic reactions. Furthermore, impairment of taste sensation or impairment of the tongue may occur during use.

Furthermore, discoloration of the teeth, tongue or restorations, such as dental fillings, may occur. However, all these changes are described by the manufacturer as reversible. This means that all changes can be reversed as soon as the product is no longer used. In very rare cases, hypersensitivity reactions have occurred, resulting in swelling of the parotid gland. If signs of the above mentioned side effects occur, the use of the mouthwash should not be continued and a doctor must be consulted.

Interaction

In order to prevent possible interactions with other medications, you should talk to your doctor before taking any other medication. The active ingredient chlorhexidine, which the meridol mouth rinse contains, is incompatible with various substances. For this reason, it is advisable not to eat for one hour after using the mouthrinse.

It is also incompatible with certain ingredients from toothpastes. Therefore, it is advisable to use it only after brushing your teeth. The incompatibility with chlorhexidine means that it cannot develop its effect and therefore the use of the mouthrinse cannot achieve any effect.

When should meridol mouthwash not be used?

According to the package insert, the meridol mouthrinse should not be used if you are allergic or sensitive to fluoride or chlorhexidine. Furthermore, it is forbidden to administer it to children under 6 years of age. Contact with eyes and ears, as well as with poorly perfused tissue, must be avoided. It is also not recommended for use on ulcers, open wounds or exfoliations. Since the solution must not be swallowed, patients with swallowing difficulties or children under 6 years of age should not use the mouthwash.
