Side effects of Omep

The mechanism of action reduces the production of acid in the stomach. This makes the environment in the stomach less acidic. Since bacteria in the stomach that are ingested with food are destroyed by gastric acid, therapy with Omep® slightly increases the risk of an infection of the gastrointestinal tract.

Furthermore, like any drug, Omep® may have side effects that may occur, but are by no means observed in every patient. About ten percent of patients experience gastrointestinal side effects when taking Omep®. This means that patients experience abdominal pain with diarrhea or constipation and/or flatulence.

Nausea with vomiting may also occur. Another frequently observed side effect is headache, which can occur together with tiredness and dizziness. Sleep disorders are also possible.

The side effects mentioned so far usually decrease during a longer intake. In addition to these side effects, there are other, much less common side effects that occur in only one percent of patients: In general, these side effects are reversible, i.e. they recede when the drug is discontinued. In addition, there are a number of other side effects, but these are very rare.

They are therefore not listed here; if you are interested, you can read about them in the package insert.

  • Itching of the skin, rash with photosensitivity

  • Taste disorders
  • General malaise
  • Swelling of ankles and feet
  • Change in liver enzymes
