Side effects of Palladon | Palladon®

Side effects of Palladon

The side effects of Palladon® are typical for the opioid analgesic class of drugs. Nausea, vomiting and dizziness may occur. Constipation and urinary retention may also occur.

As with many pain-relieving drugs, fatigue and low blood pressure (hypotension), as well as bradycardia and respiratory depression, can result. Narrowed pupils (miosis) may be a sign of overdose. In addition, hydromorphone has a euphoric effect and therefore a certain addictive potential that can lead to addiction. Furthermore, hallucinations and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) may occur when taking Palladon®.

Interaction

The effect of hydromorphone can be enhanced and influenced by the simultaneous intake of sedative drugs. Side effects may be more frequent. These drugs include muscle relaxants, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, phenotiazines (neuroleptics, e.g. for hallucinations), tricyclic antidepressants and anesthetics. Furthermore, interactions with alcohol, antihistamines (for the treatment of allergies and mucosal inflammation) and tranquilizers (anxiety-relieving psychopharkama) are known.

Contraindication

Palladon® is contraindicated in patients with an allergy to hydromorphone, breathing difficulties such as respiratory depression, asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and paralytic ileus.
