Side effects | ThermaCare® Heat Patch

Side effects

Since the effect of the ThermaCare® heat patches is only caused by the local generation of heat, side effects are not to be expected. There is no absorption of active ingredients through the skin. Side effects are most likely to be caused by excessive heat application, for example, in previously damaged or sensitive skin.

These manifest themselves then as a slight burn which can lead to redness and pain of the skin. If the heat plaster is felt as too hot, it must be removed immediately. An application in body areas with reduced heat perception is therefore not recommended.

If these recommendations are followed, side effects are not expected to occur when using the ThermaCare® Heat Patch. In tests with heat patches from other manufacturers, allergic skin reactions have been identified as side effects in some cases. Since ThermaCare® heat patches do not contain any additives with allergic potential, the side effects are not to be expected.

Interaction

Interactions with other drugs are not to be expected when using ThermaCare® heat plasters. There is no direct influence of the active ingredients on the body but only an indirect effect due to the released heat. However, it is not recommended to use ThermaCare® heat patches together with other types of heat supply (grain pillow, hot water bottle) and medicinal ointments.Otherwise the skin may be irritated or damaged.

When should ThermaCare® heat patches not be used?

ThermaCare® thermal patches should not be used if the airtight packaging of the individual patches is damaged or leaking or if the thermal patch itself is obviously damaged. Furthermore, the product should not be used on diseased, injured or damaged skin. The use of ThermaCare® heat patches (as well as other forms of heat application) is also discouraged if the pain is recent (within the last 48 hours), such as bruising.

Instead of applying heat, such injuries should be better cooled and, if necessary, elevated to promote decongestant treatment. Other contraindications are pain in the head, groin, feet or toes and the hollow of the knee. ThermaCare® heat plasters are also not suitable for these conditions. In the case of certain illnesses such as diabetes (diabetes), circulatory disorders, heart disease and rheumatic joint diseases, a doctor should be consulted before using ThermaCare heat patches. The same applies to use during pregnancy.
