Single Joint Pain (Monarthropathy)

Monarthropathy (ICD-10-GM M05-ICD-10-GMM14: Inflammatory polyarthropathies; ICD-10-GM M25.5-: Joint pain) refers to joint disease of a single joint. Joint diseases of a single joint associated with pain are described below.

Common causes of joint pain include arthritis urica/gout (uric acid crystals), trauma, and infection.

Monarthropathy with pain can be a symptom of many diseases (see under “Differential Diagnoses”).

Course and prognosis: Course and prognosis depend on the cause of the disease. In the case of infection, rapid detection of the causative agent is important for therapy and prognosis. Patients with bacterial arthritis should therefore be admitted for immediate treatment. This is usually also required for patients with reactive arthritis (postinfectious arthritis: e.g., intestinal infections, urogenital infections)/Reiter’s disease.
