Sinupret® forte

Introduction

Sinupret® forte is a herbal medicinal product. It combines the ingredients gentian root, primrose blossom, dockweed, elderflower and verbena in a prescribed dose and is offered in the form of coated tablets (special form of tablets). Compared to Sinupret® extract, the individual ingredients of Sinupret® forte are contained in a lower dosage. Sinupret® forte is used for acute and chronic inflammation of the paranasal sinuses (sinusitis). These often occur in the context of a classic cold and are accompanied by a cold, a blocked nose and headaches, among other things.

Indications

Sinupret® forte is used for acute and chronic inflammation of the paranasal sinuses (sinusitis). However, in most cases of chronic sinusitis (more than 3 months), further drug treatment and possibly surgical procedures are required. A sinusitis is often found in the context of a cold.

It is usually caused by a virus infection, but in rare cases it can also be caused by bacteria. The pathogens penetrate through the nasal mucosa into the individual paranasal sinuses. Classical symptoms are: a cold (rhinosinusitis), stuffy nose, headache, pressure pain in the upper jaw and forehead area.

All paranasal sinuses (frontal, maxillary, sphenoidal, ethmoid sinuses) can be affected – the most frequent inflammation is in the area of the maxillary and ethmoid sinuses. Sinupret® forte is approved for use in adolescents (older than 12 years) and adults. Sinupret® forte must not be used in children and adolescents under 12 years of age due to the lack of adequate examinations.

Effect and active ingredient

The herbal drug Sinupret® forte consists of a combination of five ingredients: The ingredients are extracted from the plant and then used in powder form for the tablets. One tablet contains 12mg gentian root, 36mg primrose blossom, 36mg dockweed, 36mg elderflower and 36mg verbena (1:3:3:3:3 ratio). Through the combination of the individual substances, Sinupret® forte has a strong expectorant and anti-inflammatory effect.

The mucus produced during sinusitis is dissolved and can be coughed up or removed by nasal rinsing. At the same time, the anti-inflammatory effect combats the cause of the disease. The individual ingredients of Sinupret® forte have different effects and their combination is what makes them so effective against sinusitis:

  • Gentian root
  • Key Flower Blossoms
  • Dockweed
  • Elderflower
  • Vervain
  • Gentian roots lead via bitter substances to an increased production of saliva and stomach acid.
  • Cowslip blossom and dockweed have an expectorant, anti-inflammatory and slightly antibacterial effect.
  • Elderberry blossoms facilitate coughing up by increasing the bronchial mucus and at the same time have a slightly antipyretic effect.
  • Verbena has anti-inflammatory effects in the upper respiratory tract.
