Sjögren’s Syndrome: Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of Sjögren’s syndrome.

Family history

Social history

Current anamnesis/systemic anamnesis (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • Do you suffer from dry eyes? Do your eyes burn or do you have a foreign body sensation in your eyes?
  • Do you suffer from dry mouth? If so, how long has this existed?
  • Do you have joint pain? If so, with swelling and / or hyperthermia?
  • Do you have muscle pain?
  • How is your dental health?
    • Have you noticed any chalky or brownish changes in your teeth?
    • Do you have a toothache?
    • Do you have pain reactions to hot, cold or sour?
  • Have you noticed swollen lymph nodes?
  • Have you been feeling tired lately? Do you feel fatigued?
  • Have you noticed any swelling of the salivary glands?
  • Has your voice been hoarse more often lately?
  • Do you have a persistent urge to cough?
  • Do you suffer from dry mucous membranes in the vaginal area?

Vegetative anamnesis incl. nutritional anamnesis.

  • How much fluid do you drink per day?

Self history including medication history.

  • Pre-existing conditions (general diseases)
  • Allergies
  • Radiotherapy
  • Pregnancies
