The following are the main diseases or complications that may be contributed by skin aging:
- Age spots (lentigo senilis).
- Desiccation eczema (exsiccation eczema).
- Itching due to old age (pruritus senilis)
- Age warts – seborrheic keratosis
- Actinic keratosis – chronic damage to the keratinized epidermis, caused by many years of intense exposure to sunlight (actinic = caused by rays); can lead to squamous cell carcinoma (PEK) of the skin after years; actinic keratosis is therefore considered a facultative precancerous condition.
- Pressure ulcer – poorly and slowly healing wound as a result of reduced blood flow to the skin and/or subcutaneous tissue.
- Keratoses – keratinization disorders of the skin with horny and scaly buildup.
- Basal cell carcinoma (basal cell carcinoma) – form of skin cancer that originates from the basalis of the skin (basal cell layer of the skin) and the root sheaths of the hair follicles.
- Squamous cell carcinoma of the skin – malignant neoplasm (malignant neoplasm) of the skin, which originates from the squamous epithelium.
