Skin Redness (Erythema)

Erythema (ICD-10-GM L53.-: Other erythematous diseases) refers to an areal reddening of the skin caused by dilatation of blood vessels and a resulting increase in blood flow to the skin.

It occurs in the context of inflammation and as a symptom of various infectious diseases and skin disorders.

Course and prognosis: The course and prognosis depend on the cause of the disease. If the erythema does not disappear spontaneously (on its own) after a few days, medical evaluation is required.
