A comprehensive clinical examination is the basis for selecting further diagnostic steps:
- General physical examination – including blood pressure, pulse, body weight, height; furthermore:
- Inspection (viewing).
- Skin and mucous membranes
- Pharynx (throat) [upper airway changes?, obstructed nasal breathing?]
- Auscultation (listening) of the heart.
- Auscultation of the lungs
- Palpation (palpation) of the abdomen (abdomen) (tenderness?, knocking pain?, coughing pain?, defensive tension?, hernial orifices?, kidney bearing knocking pain?)
- Inspection (viewing).
- ENT medical examination – including epipharyngoscopy (reflection of the nasopharynx).
- Clinical assessment of the morphology of the facial skull.
- Assessment of flow-related nasal structures [presence of nasal breathing?]
- Examination of the oropharynx (“oral pharynx).
- Examination of the oral cavity
- Health check
