Somatopause: Complications

The following are the most important diseases or complications that may be contributed to by somatopause:

Respiratory system (J00-J99)

  • Decreased total lung capacity, increased work of breathing, especially at night!!!

Endocrine, nutritional and metabolic diseases (E00-E90).

  • Insulin resistance – decreased effectiveness of endogenous insulin at target organs skeletal muscle, adipose tissue, and liver.
  • Hyperlipoproteinemia (increased VLDL triglycerides, decreased HDL cholesterol).

Skin and subcutaneous (L00-L99).

  • Thin and dry skin

Cardiovascular system (I00-I99)

Musculoskeletal system and connective tissue (M00-M99).

Psyche – Nervous System (F00-F99; G00-G99).

  • Anxiety disorders
  • Depression
  • Erectile dysfunction (ED; erectile dysfunction)
  • Insomnia (sleep disorders)
  • Problems in the partnership, for example, due to self-esteem reduction.

Symptoms and abnormal clinical and laboratory findings, not elsewhere classified (R00-R99).

  • Fatigue and exhaustion.
  • Lack of physical performance

  • Abnormal body composition (BIA)
    • Increased body fat percentage (KFG ↑).
    • Reduced muscle mass (muscle strength ↓)
    • Increase in extracellular body mass (blood and tissue fluid ↑).
