Sorbitol Intolerance: Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of sorbitol intolerance (sorbitol intolerance).

Family history

  • Are there any hereditary diseases in your family?

Social anamnesis

Current medical history/systemic medical history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • Have you noticed symptoms such as increased flatulence and diarrhea?
  • Do you suffer from nausea?
  • Do you suffer from cramping abdominal pain?
  • When do these symptoms occur?
  • Do you feel chronically tired?
  • Do you suffer from headaches?

Self-history

  • Previous illnesses (gastrointestinal diseases)
  • Operations
  • Allergies
  • Pregnancies
  • Medication history

Tip.
When looking for the trigger of food intolerance, keeping a food diary is helpful. Causative foods include: fruit-rich meals, fruit juice drinks, dried fruit, sugar-free chewing gum, energy-reduced products (preferred in diabetic products; used here as a substitute for sucrose), sweets.
