Splints after a nasal septum surgery

It is also possible to stabilize the septum after the surgery, instead of using a tamponade, with a splint made of silicone foil for 1-2 weeks. These splints are fixed in the nose with a small suture. The modern silicone splints have breathing tubes.

These allow a minimal amount of air to enter the nose. However, in the first hours after the operation, the patient must breathe through the mouth. Dryness of the mouth may occur, which can be alleviated by regularly moistening the mouth. Usually the silicone splints are removed after 5-10 days.
