Sports break with Apophysitis calcanei

The heel bone is exposed to permanent stress due to sporting activities, especially running, jumping, etc. To allow the pain to subside, it is therefore advisable to take a break from the activities described above. A 4-6 week break is recommended in order to ensure complete freedom from pain and to prevent a recurrence after a few days.

The duration as well as the extent of the break (little or no stress allowed) should be assessed in view of the symptoms. The type of sport practised and the performance level also play a decisive role. High-class athletes in adolescence often start training again after they are free of pain or try to avoid stressful movements and fall back on more gentle training methods for a certain period of time.
