Sports in the 2nd trimester of pregnancy

In the second trimester most women no longer have nausea and vomiting. This is usually the ideal time to get regular exercise. For most women, the abdomen also starts to grow now.

It is up to the woman to decide which sport she wants to do. However, it is advisable to choose a sport that has already been done or, for untrained women, a sport that is easy to learn, even for beginners. There are special courses for pregnant women, including yoga, Pilates, aqua fitness and pregnancy gymnastics.

These courses are often led by midwives or experienced instructors. The correct execution of the exercises is taught and the needs of the individual women are also taken into account. Thus the woman can be sure not to do anything wrong during the training and not to harm the baby.

In addition, you have the opportunity to exchange experiences with other pregnant women and to make friends. The costs for these courses are covered or subsidized by some health insurance companies. Furthermore, all kinds of sports are allowed, which is good for the woman.

Sports in the 3rd trimester of pregnancy

In the third trimester, women usually have problems with their growing stomach and additional weight. The woman should now no longer put too much strain on herself and should not train too intensively. Overstraining can trigger premature contractions and thus premature birth.

It is recommended to do frequent breaks and relaxation exercises. Long walks are also preferable. In the last third of the pregnancy the woman should also take care not to lie on her back for too long.

The abdomen presses on the aorta and reduces the blood flow to the baby. This can lead to a lack of blood supply to the baby. Nevertheless, the pregnant woman can continue to do the type of sport she likes best until shortly before the birth. It is advisable to do outdoor sports with a training partner. This way, help can be called for in case of injury or accident.
