Sterilization in men (vasectomy) can be performed in an approximately one-hour procedure by a specialist in surgery or urology.

During this procedure, the sperm duct (ductus deferens) is irreversibly cut. It is glued, overcooked or clipped so that no more sperm can enter the seminal fluid (ejaculate) during ejaculation. The sperm then remain in the testicles.
