Strength training and soccer

Soccer is a sport that can cause injuries through frequent changes of direction and contact between players. Strength training in childhood builds up the muscles and above all improves their responsiveness through the nerves (intramuscular coordination). The organism can secure its joints and ligaments by allowing its muscles to react faster and more effectively to external influences.

However, during intensive strength training of the lower extremity, care should be taken to avoid overloading the patella tendon by not fully stretching the knee joint, for example, in knee bends. Strength training in childhood can therefore reduce the risk of injury in soccer.
