Sugaring for Hair Removal

Once be as beautiful as a princess from 1001 nights: Sugaring, a method of hair removal, which originally comes from the Orient and is now also becoming increasingly popular in Germany, makes this possible. Allegedly, Cleopatra has already freed herself from annoying hairs with the help of a body sugaring. In sugaring, a lukewarm sugar paste (halawa) is applied to the skin and then pulled off in a jerky manner similar to waxing. However, since the pulling off of the sugaring paste is done with the direction of hair growth, the procedure is less painful than other ways of hair removal.

Sugaring has many advantages

While waxing or epilating, by removing hair against the direction of growth, there is a risk of deforming the hair canal, sugaring is gentle on the skin: because by removing in the direction of growth, the hairs can not break off, so the skin is less irritated and fewer pimples are formed. Thus, the treated areas feel smooth and soft after hair removal. In addition, body sugaring offers other benefits:

  • Sugaring is suitable for all parts of the body, as it can be easily applied anywhere. Both eyebrows and arms and legs, as well as the bikini area can be depilated with the sugar paste.
  • With Sugaring, hair can already be removed from circa one to two millimeters in length. Only about four weeks after hair removal by sugaring, the hair grows back. If the procedure is used regularly, the hair growth also decreases over time.
  • Sugar paste (halawa) consists of purely natural ingredients and is produced without chemical additives. In addition, sugar has an antibacterial effect and is considered a cure for skin infections.
  • The sugaring paste, unlike, for example, warm wax does not stick to living skin cells, but only removes dead skin flakes. However, you should not let the mass dry too long, otherwise the skin can be injured when pulling off.
  • Since you can easily make the paste for sugaring yourself, it is an inexpensive way of hair removal.

Sugaring: Do it yourself by recipe

Sugaring paste consists of water, lemon juice and sugar. With the help of the following sugaring recipe, you can easily make the sugar paste yourself:

  • Juice of half a lemon
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 cup sugar

The ingredients are placed in a saucepan and slowly boiled until a golden yellow syrupy mass is formed. If the sugaring recipe has not succeeded optimally, you can influence the state of the mass by adding sugar or lemon juice, respectively, or a little oil. When cooling, the sugaring paste becomes more viscous, but it can be reheated and liquefied in the microwave.

Important: After boiling, it is essential to let the sugaring paste cool down sufficiently, otherwise it can cause burns.

When applying the paste should be about body temperature. It is now applied to the desired area against the direction of hair growth. Then a strip of cloth is placed on the sugar paste and pressed firmly. Thus the mass connects itself with the hair and takes these with the jerky tearing off in growth direction. Alternatively, the sugar paste can be pulled off without the fabric strip using only the fingers.

Sugaring tips

Before the first application Sugaring should be tested, as is usual with other methods of hair removal, first on a small area of skin. A Body Sugaring should not be used if the skin is red or irritated, a sunburn is present or one was recently in the solarium.

Likewise, one should avoid applying body lotion 24 hours before sugaring, as the procedure works best when the skin is oil-free. You should also avoid sun and tanning beds for up to 24 hours after sugaring and avoid using alcohol-type skin care products.
