Summary | Exercises for a meniscus lesion

Summary

Meniscus lesion is a common injury in the knee joint and can occur after trauma or after overloading and wear and tear. The lesion leads to inflammation and pain in the joint with loss of function and often a joint effusion. The meniscus lesion can be treated conservatively or surgically arthroscopically. The treatment is followed by an extensive physiotherapeutic rehabilitation, in which, in addition to restoring joint mobility through mobilization exercises, the focus is on strengthening the muscles that stabilize the knee joint.

The highest priority is given to coordination training, through which the reactivity and stability of the knee joint is trained again after a meniscus lesion. The physiotherapeutic treatment and exercises, which the patient performs independently, are intended to restore the joint function as completely as possible and prevent the development of osteoarthritis at a later stage.
