Summary | Physiotherapy for spondylolysis

Summary

Spondylolysis often develops in childhood and adolescence and is usually manifest and not curable at diagnosis. Symptoms often appear later in adulthood. Back pain occurs in the lumbar spine area and, in the case of neval involvement, radiations into the legs.

Neurological symptoms should be urgently clarified by a physician. If necessary, appropriate pain therapy with medication should be carried out. Particularly important is the stabilizing and posture-correcting physiotherapy.

An exercise program, in particular to strengthen the abdominal muscles and the deep (autochthonous) back muscles, should be carried out regularly and consistently by the patient at home, even outside of therapy. Stress that requires a strong hollow back should be avoided by the patient. Surgery can be useful for pain that is resistant to therapy.
