Summary | Postisometric Relaxation

Summary

Postisometric relaxation is a technique often used in the early acute treatment phase of injuries and trauma, but also for tension. In its basic form, Postisometric Relaxation is a therapeutic technique. However, there are also exercises in which the patient can apply the technique independently.

It is based on the assumption that a muscle that has been tensed for a certain period of time loses tone in the relaxation phase and thus falls below the previous state of tension. Reflective tensions can thus be released and the range of movement of a joint improved. Following postisometric relaxation, the opponent of the stretched muscle should be trained to stabilize the newly gained mobility.
