Summary | Spinal canal stenosis – exercises for at home

Summary

The physiotherapeutic treatment of a spinal stenosis of the cervical spine is mainly concerned with symptomatic treatment. Relief from compressed structures is indicated. Exercises such as retraction, which can also be performed very well at home, as well as light mobilization and stretching techniques are suitable for this.

In physiotherapy, a treatment plan is drawn up and developed with the patient in a targeted and results-oriented manner. Exercises are shown and supplemented by manual techniques of the physiotherapist, such as relieving tractions. Healing of spinal stenosis of the cervical spine is not possible through physiotherapy.

A widening of the spinal canal can be done surgically. Subsequently, the cervical spine is often immobilized for a certain period of time. Stabilizing exercises and coordination training can improve the function of the cervical spine after surgery. The training of after-effects of nerve compression is also part of physiotherapy.
