Summary | Tennis elbow (Epicondylitis humeri)

Summary

The pain syndrome “tennis elbow” is a very common disorder, which nowadays is mainly caused by overloading the forearm extensor muscles (or the resulting inflammation of their tendon attachments to the muscle) caused by working with the computer mouse for too long. However, if you take care to make movements more varied and avoid one-sided strain, this disease can be prevented quite well. At the first signs, by immobilizing the arm and stopping the activity that causes pain, you can yourself ensure that no chronic image of a tennis elbow develops, which would make physiotherapy or, in the worst case, even surgery necessary.

Prognosis

The prognosis of the tennis elbow is very good. In most cases, this disease can be completely cured by conservative therapy alone. Only very rarely is surgery necessary, but with very few exceptions, it is completely free of symptoms.
