Summary | What are amino acids?

Summary

Amino acids are found in both plant and animal products and have many important functions in our body. For example, they control many metabolic processes, are involved in energy production and are of enormous importance, especially for muscle building and muscle maintenance. Therefore, it is very important, especially for endurance and strength athletes, to always have sufficient amino acids in the body.

Amino acids can be divided into essential and non-essential amino acids. In contrast to the non-essential amino acids, the human body cannot produce the essential amino acids itself, and can therefore absorb them through food. However, a healthy and balanced diet should not make it difficult to cover the daily amino acid requirement. Athletes are an exception and should supplement amino acids in certain cases to prevent muscle loss and to ensure a permanent supply of energy.
