Sun | Irritation of the meninges

Sun

The sun can also cause meningitis. In this case the meningitis is a symptom of sunstroke. This occurs when the person affected has been in the sun for a long time with uncovered head and neck.

The heat of the sun’s rays is decisive for the irritation. The heat, which then accumulates in the skull, can also affect the brain in the worst case. If the sunstroke is particularly severe, there is a risk of brain edema, i.e. swelling of the brain.

Sunstroke is characterized by a very red head, severe headaches and in some cases, neck stiffness. Dizziness, nausea and listlessness can also occur in this context. People with sparse head hair or baldness have an increased risk of suffering from sunstroke. Older people and children also have a higher risk and should therefore protect their head by covering it.

Is meningitis contagious?

Depending on the cause of the meningitis, it may or may not be contagious. It is contagious in the context of a bacterial or viral meningitis. However, if it is caused by damage to the spinal column, sunstroke or a tumor, there is no risk of infection.

Homeopathy

To counteract headaches caused by meningitis, there are various homeopathic options. Belladonna is used to treat severe headaches, with five globules of potency C5 to be taken every hour. An alternative is Gelsemium sempervirens C15, of which five globules should be taken every two hours.

In a later stage of the disease, when the symptoms are less severe, the dose can be reduced. Solanum nigrum C4 to C9 can be used to counteract photophobia.
