Sunburn (Dermatitis Solaris): Prevention

To prevent sunburn, attention must be paid to reducing individual risk factors.

Behavioral risk factors

  • Long stay in the sun or artificial UV light.

Preventive measures

Sun protection must begin at a young age. An hour in the sun is much more dangerous for a child than for an adult.Attention!Babies up to six months of age have virtually no adequate endogenous protective system and should therefore not be exposed to direct sunlight. For children, sunscreens with a sun protection factor below 15 should not be used.Dermatologists are convinced: sun protection is of particular importance for the skin – especially for teenagers, because their skin is much more sensitive to sun damage than for older people. Approximately 80% of sun-induced skin damage occurs before the age of 20 and shows up in the form of wrinkles and age spots as they get older.

If necessary, also take part in a skin type determination. This will determine, among other things, the sun protection factor suitable for you and provide you with information on individual sun protection.
