Sweet halitosis in babies | Bad breath in the baby

Sweet halitosis in babies

This smell can be compared to overripe, already slightly rotten fruit. The cause can be quite harmless, namely by changing the composition of the saliva. If you change your eating habits, the composition of your saliva also changes.

Depending on what, and how much of something you are, your saliva also smells different. However, you should not ignore bad breath. If the sugar level in the blood is too high, a so-called ketoacidosis can develop.

In this case the hormone balance gets out of control and a pungent smelling stench is formed through breathing. This is particularly common in people with insulin deficiency. In order to rule out diabetes, one should therefore consult a pediatrician or a dentist specializing in children. It is therefore important to keep babies and children away from additional sugar and sweets as long as possible.

However, diabetes does not necessarily have to be present. It is also possible that the blood sugar level derails for other reasons. For example, children should not consume much more calories and energy than they consume. It is therefore advisable to go to the doctor if the children are on their feet all day and romp around despite eating little.
