Symptoms and forms | Skin rash on the belly

Symptoms and forms

In addition to reddening or swelling of the affected skin area, blisters or pustules may also form. The blisters and pustules can be “weeping”, i.e. filled with pus or fluid, or dry. Very dry skin can tend to form dandruff and often manifests itself as burning or itching.

The rash can occur all over the body or only in isolated areas and may be persistent or disappear quickly. Often the course of the rash can already be an indication of the cause. Often rashes are also localized near the genital area.

Diagnostics

In order to find the cause of the skin rash on the abdomen and thus also to create the basis for the treatment strategy, a conversation with the treating physician (anamnesis) is elementary important. Questions about the first appearance of the rash, a change in the affected skin areas and the current, personal circumstances during its appearance can provide the doctor with important information. The aim is to find out whether it is just an acute stress reaction of the body, which will soon subside and usually does not require any special treatment, or whether an infection (e.g. with herpes zoster) could currently be present.

If an infection is suspected, the doctor will take further diagnostic measures (such as taking a blood sample) in addition to the conversation. It should also be clarified whether an allergic reaction is possibly the cause of the rash. To find a possible allergen, the so-called prick test can be performed. By avoiding the allergen in the future, another allergic skin reaction (to a food, for example) can be avoided.
