Symptoms despite antibiotics
If the symptoms persist despite antibiotic therapy, the first step is to try to get the symptoms under control by changing the antibiotic, i.e. by prescribing a different antibiotic. However, an antibiotic therapy of two to four weeks is usually sufficient and even if the symptoms persist, a longer therapy usually has no additional benefit. Despite elimination of the pathogen through antibiotic therapy, the symptoms can persist a little longer. However, if these symptoms persist for a longer period of time, this speaks against the presence of chronic Lyme disease and the secondary conditions of the infection should be treated symptomatically.
