Symptoms of cervical inflammation

The changes in the tooth are already visible in the mirror image for the affected person. On the outside of the teeth there are wedge-shaped notches on the cause of the grinding, which expose the dentin. The dentin appears more yellowish than the enamel, which is why its color stands out well.

Furthermore, especially in the morning after waking up, the patient suffers from pain in the temporomandibular joint, or severe tension of the chewing muscles in the face, which feels hard. A cracking of the temporomandibular joint can also be an indication of the cause of the pain. This happens mainly in patients who are currently in a stressful everyday situation or who suffer from problems, because stress favors crunching.

In the case of inflammation of the dental neck caused by an incorrect brushing technique, the pain occurs mainly when brushing. The affected area is already painful when touched with the bristles of the toothbrush. Furthermore, the gums are not pale pink, but reddened and have migrated upwards.

Cold and warm food is hardly tolerable for the affected person at this point. With generalized gingivitis, which is the cause of the problem, the entire gums are swollen and fire-red. Touching them with a toothbrush causes discomfort everywhere.

Furthermore, the use of dental floss and interdental brushes immediately causes irritation and increased bleeding. The pain of a dental neck inflammation varies depending on the cause. All causes have in common, however, that the sensitivity to thermal stimuli, primarily to cold, is greatly increased, so that cold food and drinks are hardly bearable, since a pulling cold pain is triggered.Acidic foods such as juices and various vegetables promote the occurrence of pain because they directly attack the dentin. If bruxism is the leading cause, tension, temporomandibular joint problems and cracking also occur in the morning.

What helps with cervical inflammation?

With cleaning defects it can already help to buy a new toothbrush, because the old one is already frayed, or to change to a soft toothbrush. Furthermore, an electric toothbrush with a pressure sensor or an ultrasonic toothbrush is also advisable, since either no pressure is used or the patient can learn exactly how much pressure is still healthy for the teeth. As an immediate aid, there are also pain-relieving toothpastes that temporarily close the dentine canals and thus temporarily relieve the symptoms.

In the long term, only going to the dentist can help, who will cover the “bare” part of the tooth again with filling therapies or connective tissue transplants and thus permanently relieve the symptoms. However, fillings on the necks of teeth usually do not hold well and are often quickly scrubbed off by the toothbrush due to the constant strain of use. Therefore the connective tissue transplant is the more durable form of therapy.

In case of complaints caused by bruxism, the patient can hardly achieve any improvement on his own. Massaging the tense chewing muscles can relieve tension and help slightly, but the temporomandibular joint complaints can only be relieved in the long term by professional splint therapy. In the case of cervical inflammation, which is generalized, thorough oral hygiene and a concentrated therapy with chlorhexidine digluconate helps to fight the bacteria in the oral cavity.

The dentist acts differently depending on the cause and size of the defect. Generalized gum problems are treated with professional teeth cleaning and intensive therapy with chlorhexidine digluconate, during which two weeks of morning and evening rinsing with the 0.2% containing preparation for two weeks will bring rapid relief. In case of complaints caused by bruxism, a crunching splint is made in order not to further enlarge the wedge-shaped defects.

These are covered with a filling therapy. For muscle and joint problems, special physiotherapy can also help. In case of small plaster defects, the dentist usually acts passively.

A sealant is applied to close the dentine canals, which is repeated approximately every three to six months. In the case of larger defects, the dentist also tries to place a filling to cover the defect. If the problem recurs, the dentist will use a connective tissue transplant, in which the tissue from the palate is used to cover the cervical defect and the gums are sutured together.

Ideally, the transplant will grow into the tooth so that the sensitive area is no longer visible. Home remedies can only help in the case of inflammation of the tooth neck if the cause is gum inflammation or a tooth brushing defect. In this case, herbal rinses such as chamomile or sage can provide temporary relief due to their antibacterial effect.

The insertion of a cotton ball soaked in oil of cloves or myrrh tincture can also temporarily improve symptoms. In the long term, however, no household remedy can help and only dental treatment can provide long-term relief. In general, you should try to avoid irritating foods with a lot of acid or spicy foods in order not to put additional strain on the affected areas. Also, whitening toothpaste with coarse-grained particles should be avoided due to its abrasive effect.
