Symptoms | Skin rash at the corner of the eye

Symptoms

The accompanying symptoms depend on the underlying disease and can therefore be quite different. A frequent accompanying symptom is itching. Furthermore, pain, fever or swelling are possible accompanying symptoms.

Typical symptoms of conjunctivitis include a foreign body sensation in the eye, severe redness of the eye and photophobia. A typical symptom of lachrymal sac inflammation is also the emptying of pus or purulent secretions. A swelling of the lymph nodes in the head and neck area may also be present.

The possible accompanying symptoms are therefore very varied and vary according to the clinical picture. Itching is a frequent accompanying symptom of skin rashes. Allergic skin rashes are very often accompanied by itching.

Another typical cause of an itchy rash at the corner of the eye is blepharitis, which is an inflammation of the eyelid margins. Inflammation of the conjunctiva can also be a cause of itchy skin rash at the corner of the eye. However, the diagnosis is usually made clinically, i.e. based on the symptoms and appearance of the rash.

Diagnosis

In case of complaints in close proximity to the eye or directly at the corner of the eye, you should consult an ophthalmologist. He can narrow down the cause of the rash by means of special examinations. It is important to clarify whether there is any danger to the eye and vision.

Therefore, even with rashes on the eye, you should first go to an ophthalmologist. First of all, the rash is described and examined for existing accompanying symptoms. Sometimes a smear may be necessary.

Treatment

The treatment of a rash at the corner of the eye depends on the underlying cause and disease. Therefore general treatment plans or suggestions are not possible.Allergic skin rashes are treated with antihistamines, which help against itching. More severe allergic reactions require treatment with ointments or gels containing cortisone.

For infectious causes, a range of eye drops or ointments as well as gels with antibiotic or antiviral active ingredients are available, which are used for example for eyelid inflammation or infectious diseases of the lacrimal apparatus. Hygiene measures, such as careful rinsing of the eyelid margin in the case of inflammation of the eyelid margin (blepharitis), are also part of the common treatment measures. Painkillers are available to alleviate accompanying pain.
