Taurolidine is commercially available as an irrigation solution and instillation solution (Taurolin). It has been approved in many countries since 1981.

Structure and properties

Taurolidine (C7H16N4O4S2, Mr = 284.4 g/mol) is a derivative of the aminosulfonic acid taurine.

Effects

Taurolidine (ATC B05CA05) is antimicrobial to bacteria, antifungal to fungi, and neutralizes endotoxins.
