Tendon Calcification (Tendinosis Calcarea): Diagnostic Tests

Obligatory medical device diagnostics.

  • Radiograph of the affected tendon or region, in two planes – to localize the calcific deposit and to assess its extent.
  • Sonography (ultrasound examination) of the affected tendon or affected region – to localize the calcific deposit and to assess the extent.

Optional medical device diagnostics – depending on the results of the history, physical examination and obligatory laboratory parameters – for differential diagnostic clarification.

  • Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI; computer-assisted cross-sectional imaging method (using magnetic fields, i.e., without X-rays); particularly well suited for imaging soft-tissue injuries) – for detection of soft-tissue involvement.
  • Computed tomography (CT; sectional imaging method (X-ray images from different directions with computer-based evaluation), particularly well suited for the representation of bony injuries) – for the detection of soft tissue involvement.
  • X-rays of adjacent joints – to exclude co-involvement.
