Terlusollogy: Treatment, Effects & Risks

The doctrine of Terlusollogy is a type doctrine of the violinist Wilk and the physician Hagana, which assumes two breathing and constiution types. With type-appropriate movement, breathing and nutrition, users should be able to improve their personal constitution. So far, the correlations of Terlusollogy have not been scientifically proven.

What is terlusollogy?

Terlussology is a concept of alternative medicine. The concept is also called Wilk’s breathing type theory or solar/lunar concept. Terlussology is a concept of alternative medicine. It goes back to the type theory of violinist Erich Wilk from the 20th century. The German doctors Charlotte and Christian Hagena developed a breathing type theory based on this teaching, which is mainly used in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The concept is also called breathing type teaching according to Wilk or solar/lunar concept. The word “terlusollogy” is a registered trademark and corresponds to an artificial word that is also composed of the Latin words terra, luna and sol, as well as the Greek word λόγος. Thus, terlussology is a study of the interrelationships of the Earth, the Sun, and the Moon. Based on these mutual relationships, C. and C. Hagena developed different types of breath that influence the constitution of the human being.

Function, effect and goals

Terrlussology postulates the influence that the sun and the moon have on human beings. The background is the scientific connection that the sun and moon act on the center of the earth. On the basis of solar and lunar influences, Wilk developed two different types of breath, which C. and C. Hagena serve as the basis of two constitutional types. The lunar in-breath type is distinguished from the solar out-breath type in Wilk’s teaching. The day of birth determines to which breathing type a person is to be counted. At the first independent breathing either the lunar or the solar type predominates. From the point of view of terlusollogy, this connection shapes a person throughout his or her life. For the lunar part the terlusollogy determines values between one percent at new moon and 100 percent at full moon. The solar portion lies according to the teachings between one percent on December 21 and 100 percent on June 21. Winter and summer beginnings thus characterize the basic concept in addition to the phases of the moon. The two breathing types differ mainly in the way they breathe. They use the chest and abdomen differently for breathing and also emphasize the breathing phases of inhalation and exhalation to different degrees. As a causal consequence of the different ways of breathing, two different constitutional types develop. They differ primarily in terms of posture, but also in the way they move and eat. A permanent deviation from the breathing-typical characteristics is said to reduce the performance of the types and lead to a health impairment. Terlussology is a holistic approach that applies to all areas of life. The goal of the teaching is to identify one’s breath type and align it accordingly. For the lunar type, the teaching considers an athletic background to be beneficial. Lunar types keep moving and become lively especially in the evening. They rarely stand still and their posture seems diffuse. Challenges and hard ways suit them. The opposite, solar type radiates calmness and is a static type. He is a morning person and goes to bed early. He loves the Mediterranean climate and the local cuisine. Besides these differences, there are differences between the two types, especially from the health point of view. Solarians, for example, don’t have to worry about their fluid balance, are best at low-movement activities, and benefit from climatic extremes. Lunars don’t need a scarf in winter. They should beware of nicotine, while nicotine is less harmful to solarians. With alcoholic beverages it is the opposite. In the field of nutrition, as well as in all other areas of life, a type-appropriate behavior should improve the constitution. The core of terlusollogic practice is working with the interactions between breathing, posture and movement. A series of twelve physical exercises per breathing type form the foundation and stimulate the breath-help muscles.

Risks, side effects, and dangers

Terlusollogical methods apply to many disciplines besides alternative medicine. The methods are currently used, for example, in singing, instrumental playing, pedagogy, speech therapy and business coaching. Terlusollogy is also represented in Asian techniques. However, the scientific background of the teaching is so far thin. Scientific publications on Terlusollogy are basically non-existent. The developers refer to a large extent to own application experiences. The singer, trainer and speaker Frederik Beyer interviewed about 500 test persons for his diploma thesis about the assumptions of Terlusollogy. After the questioning he judged the assumptions examined by him as simply wrong. These results made him call the doctrine a pseudoscience. Although the alleged positive effects of terlusollogy can therefore not be considered proven, the doctrine still finds approval from many disciplines. At the very least, negative consequences or risks do not seem to be associated with type-appropriate breathing, exercise and nutrition within the framework of Terlusollogy. Nevertheless, especially scientific authors today often call type theory an esoteric spinning, which lacks any evidence. Therefore, especially modern medicine shies away from its application on a large scale.
