Testicular swelling after prostate surgery

The occurrence of testicular swelling can be related to prostate surgery. If a radical removal of the prostate is performed as part of a cancer operation, the local lymph nodes are also removed. This results in an interruption within the lymph drainage system.

In this context, lymph congestion may develop, which can lead to severe swelling of the testicles. The lymph needs some time to find a new outflow path. Therefore, it usually takes 2 to 3 days until the swelling of the testicles is reduced again.

In order to counteract the swelling, the testicle should be cooled a little and stored high. In addition to a swelling of the testicle, there may also be a distribution of lymph in the small pelvis or in the legs. Also an inflammation, which can occur during prostate surgery, can cause a swelling of the testicle.

Usually the swelling lasts only a few days and disappears by itself. If pain or additional symptoms such as fever or fatigue occur, it is advisable to consult a doctor.
