The 12 functional tools | Schüßler salts

The 12 functional tools

Schüßler and his successors have proven that biochemical means open a wide field of therapeutic possibilities. This therapy is plausible, risk-free, completely adapted to the human being and natural, in the full meaning of the word. Certainly there are limits to this method, which every practitioner must recognize for himself. From the point of view of that time Schüßler recognized 12 mineral salts present in the blood and in the tissues, each of them exerts an influence on certain functions of the body organs. These are: Calcium fluoratum (fluorspar – calcium fluoride) Calcium phosphoricum (phosphoric acid lime – Calcium phosphate) Ferrum phosphoricum (iron phosphate) Potassium chloratum (potassium chloride) Potassium phosphoricum (potassium phosphate) Potassium sulfuricum (potassium sulfate) Magnesium phosphoricum (magnesium phosphate) Sodium chloratummuraticum (sodium chloride = common salt) Sodium phosphoricum (sodium phosphate) Sodium sulfuricum (sodium sulfate, Glauber’s salt) Silicea (quartz, silicic acid, sand) Calcium sulfuricum (calcium sulfate, gypsum)

  • Calcium fluoratum (fluorspar – calcium fluoride)
  • Calcium phosphoricum (phosphoric acid lime – calcium phosphate)
  • Ferrum phosphoricum (iron phosphate)

  • Magnesium phosphoricum (magnesium phosphate)
  • Sodium chloratummuraticum (sodium chloride = common salt)
  • Sodium phosphoricum (sodium phosphate)
  • Sodium sulfuricum (sodium sulfate, Glauber salt)
  • Silicea (quartz, silicic acid, sand)
  • Calcium sulfuricum (calcium sulfate, plaster)

The 12 supplements

After Schüßler’s death, research was continued and one recognized further minerals in the tissues and blood and also attributed to them a significance for the health of the organism. They are called supplements and in some cases are part of the biochemical treatment. The sense and necessity of these remedies are discussed and occasionally questioned.

The representatives of the “classical” remedies according to Schüßler consider them to be dispensable, other practitioners do not want to do without them. Originally 5 supplements have been extended to 12 in the course of time. The numbering continues after the classic 12 remedies: Potassium arsenicosum (potassium arsenite) Potassium bromatum (potassium bromide) Potassium iodatum (potassium iodide) Lithium chloratum (lithium chloride) Manganum sulfuricum (manganese sulfate) Calcium sulfuratum (calcium sulfide) Cuprum arsenicosum (copper arsenite) Potassium- Aluminium sulfuricum (potassium aluminum sulfate/alum) Zinkum chloratum (zinc chloride) Calcium carbonicum (calcium carbonate/lime) Sodium bicarbonicum (sodium bicarbonate soda)

  • Potassium arsenicosum (potassium arsenite)
  • Potassium bromatum (potassium bromide)
  • Potassium iodate (potassium iodide)
  • Lithium chloratum (lithium chloride)
  • Manganum sulfuricum (manganese sulfate)
  • Calcium sulfuratum (calcium sulfide)
  • Cuprum arsenicosum (copper arsenite)
  • Potassium aluminum sulfuricum (potassium aluminum sulfate/alum)
  • Zincum chloratum (zinc chloride)
  • Calcium carbonicum (calcium carbonate/lime)
  • Sodium bicarbonicum (sodium bicarbonate soda)
  • Arsenum iodatum (Arsenic iodide)

With the exception of Calcium sulfuricum all remedies are also available in the form of ointments for external use.

With the same numbering as the above mentioned functional agents, they have an extremely versatile field of application. Application for poorly healing lower leg ulcers, painful tears in the skin, for example at the corners of the mouth, scar bulges, ulceration of the nail fold, hemorrhoids and varicose veins. Used for joint effusions, inflammation of the bursa, delayed healing after bone fractures, swelling of the lymph glands, back pain, but also for purulent skin rashes.

Used for fresh wounds, broken bones, bruises and sprains. Also for itchy skin rashes with small pustules, sebaceous gland eczema. Use for inflamed herpes-like rashes, dry rashes with mealy scales.

Also for corns and warts on the hands. It is used for children’s psoriasis, especially on the face and for hives. Also for circular hair loss, nerve pain, muscle weakness.

In case of paralysis due to stroke, polio, muscle atrophy. Use in case of nodular rash, purulent blisters, itching, dry skin with burning sensation. Excessive dandruff, inflammation of the eyelid margin.

Also for rheumatic aching limbs. Skin itching in old age, psoriasis as accompanying therapy, in case of drilling and stabbing nerve pains which wander in the body. Application with blisters on the lips, acne, blackheads, skin fungus diseases with white scales.

Itching insect bites, soreness of small children, tears in the anus (fissures). It is used for boils as soon as pus develops, milk crust, blister and pustular rashes, beginning mastitis. Use for fungal skin diseases, purulent skin rashes, frostbite, nerve pain, corns. Use for weeping eczema on hands and feet, poorly healing wounds, inflamed calluses on the feet, corns.
